Recently, the "2025 Training Program on Earthquake Disaster Emergency Rescue for Developing Countries," hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Red Cross Society of China Training Center, was held in Hunan. Thirty-two participants from eight countries, including Nepal and Cambodia, gathered here to begin a five-day journey of learning professional knowledge and skills in earthquake disaster emergency rescue.
Enhancing earthquake disaster emergency rescue capabilities is one of the core components of disaster prevention and mitigation systems in developing countries. A spokesperson for the Red Cross Society of China Training Center explained that this training program aims to address international humanitarian needs by sharing China's experience and technologies in earthquake early warning, emergency response, professional search and rescue, and medical aid for the injured. The spokesperson added that the goal is to assist developing countries in improving their comprehensive capacity to respond to major earthquake disasters.
To this end, the Red Cross Society of China Training Center, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society of China Hunan Branch, has carefully selected a high-quality team of instructors. The team members employ diverse teaching methods, including theoretical lectures, simulation drills, case studies, and field visits, to provide participants with a comprehensive, systematic, and lively learning experience.
The training program in Hunan will run in Yueyang and Changsha until June 24. While in Yueyang, participants visited the Rescue Team of the Red Cross Society of China Yueyang Branch to observe the team’s daily training, equipment, and emergency response mechanisms, gaining insights into the development and operational model of this local professional rescue force.
Subsequently, the trainees toured the Demonstration Zone for Historical and Cultural Protection and Utilization of Yueyang Tower and the Yueyang Tower Scenic Area Red Cross First Aid Station. Participants engaged in detailed discussions with the Rescue Team of the Yueyang Branch and relevant administrative personnel on key topics, including on-site command and coordination during earthquakes and other disasters, volunteer mobilization, public emergency first aid training, and measures for protecting historical and cultural relics in disasters.
Later, the participants will go to Changsha for more in-depth and specialized training. The training will include visits to the China Geological Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Science Base, the Emergency Command Center of the Hunan Earthquake Agency, and the Earthquake Early Warning Center.
This training program represents a significant effort by the Red Cross Society of China to deepen cooperation with developing countries in the field of emergency rescue. Participants expressed their eagerness to take home advanced concepts, practical technologies, and valuable experience gained through in-depth learning and hands-on practice in China. The trainees promised to make contributions to enhancing their homelands' capabilities in earthquake disaster prevention, emergency response, and rescue operations.
